  • Note Taker HD –   $4.99 – app for writing and organizing handwritten notes.  Works well with a stylus.
  • Sketch Pad – free – app for writing, sketching handwritten notes.  Exports notes to email, Dropbox, as a photo, or to a printer.
  • Evernote – free – great all in one note taking app that keeps notes organized by notebooks.  Evernote lets you create notes, snap photos, and record voice memos that you can then access any time from your mobile device (iPad, Smartphone), computer, or the web. Works great if you work across multiple platforms, ie Droid phone and iPad.  All notes are synced to your web account and are accessible for many devices.

Sticky Note Apps

  • Infinote – $1.99 – This app is terrific if you want to organize your tasks with multiple “post-it” type notes in a variety of colors. Set up pinboards for each day or each task if there are multiple steps and put separate notes for what to do.
  • abcNotes – $2.99 – abcNotes is an easy to use app for taking notes and managing To Do lists. 

Audio Note Apps

Note:  Evernote mentioned above also has an audio recording feature that is free.

  • Audio Note – $4.99 – AudioNote combines the functionality of a notepad and voice recorder to create a powerful tool that will save you time while improving the quality of your notes.
  • Voice Memo – $0.99 – record high quality audio on your iPad using the built-in microphone, your headset, or an external mic.
  • Dragon Dictation – free – voice recognition app that allows you to speak and instantly see your text or e-mail message.

PDF Readers

  • Good Reader – $4.99 – an app that lets you read and annotate PDF and txt documents.  Good Reader can handle large files.  Add files from Dropbox to Good Reader.
  • PDF Reader Lite – free – can only store up to 10 files with the free version, $0.99 full version.  PDF Reader offers an easy way for you to read PDF files.  Supports various files includes doc, txt, ppt, and pictures. PDF Reader requires file download from any website or add a file in Dropbox.

 

File Sync and Storage

  • DropBox – free – an all in one organizer for all of your documents and multimedia files. Save files from your computer into the Dropbox folder to access your important files and documents from all of your devices including other computers you use, Smart phone, iPad, etc.  An added feature is that all of your important files are saved online so they would still be accessible even if your compute crashed.  The Dropbox app also integrates with many other apps.
  • Box.net – free- similar to Dropbox as an all in one organizer for all of your documents and multimedia files.

 

Remote Desktop/Connections

  • Splashtop Remote Desktop–  free – With this app you can fully access and control your PC in
    any way imaginable – edit Office documents, watch Flash videos or access Flash games, or access any application on your PC.
  • Splashtop Mouse – free – This app allows you to control presentations from your PC with your iPad.  Works as a wireless mouse and allow you to input text.

Other Useful Apps

  • Side by Side – free – Side by Side is a multiple-window reader/browser with offline reading and note taking capabilities. You can browse webpages, download files, read documents, or take notes on each split screen. You can view 1, 2, 3, or 4 screen simultaneously.  Great way to multi task or work in multiple applications at the same time.  Works with Dropbox.
  • Diigo was called iChromy – free – great alternative to the Safari browser.  Allows you to use tabs when browsing.  Also connects to Google applications such as iGoogle and GTalk.
  • Big Calculator Free – free – This calculator has a paper tape option so you can keep track of your calculations.
  • eBoard Solutions –free – Quickly access district school board information with the eBoard app.
  • Ted – free – TED presents talks from some of the world’s most fascinating people: education radicals, tech geniuses, medical mavericks, business gurus and music legends. Find more than 900 TEDTalk videos (with more added each week) on the official TED app.
  • Minute to Go – free – A great timer and alarm clock app to help you keep track of time.
  • Lab Timer – free – up to 16 timers can be used simultaneously
  • App Shopper – free – AppShopper keeps you up to date on the newest App Store apps, sales and freebies. Organize apps in your own customized Wish List and automatically get notified when there is a sale or update.
  • Memeo Connect Reader – free – Allows you to sync and read all of your Google Documents.  Ability to edit coming soon according to the developers.
